Council Highlights - September 2026
Wyoming, ON – At its regular meeting on Wednesday, September 2, Lambton County Council:
- Heard a presentation from the Lambton Seniors Advisory Committee regarding the Committee’s annual report, its activities, and the positive impacts made.
- Heard presentations from several groups, including Cargill Limited, Dillon Consulting, Tricar Properties, Zelinka Priamo Ltd., Lambton Fedearation of Agriculture, Ontario Federation of Agriculture, Lambton Christian Farmers, and Grain Farmers of Ontario regarding the City of Sarnia Official Plan Ammendment No. 13 Report.
- Endorsed staff’s recommendation that OPA No. 13 be refused as the proposed amendment is not consistent with the Provincial Planning Statement and does not conform with the County of Lambton Official Plan and that the County does not endorse the proposed “Class 4” designation under the NPC-300 Noise Guidelines for subject lands.
- Approved amendments of By-Law No. 30 of 2010 through By-law No. 17 of 2026 for all provincially regulated premises under the Health Protection and Promotion Act.
- Approved the Corporate Services Division and Finance, Facilities, and Acquisitions Realignment that aims to improve coordination, decision-making, and will see the elimination of one (1) General Manager role, which has been vacant since the retirement of the previous General Manager.
- Received an updated report on the status and timing of the roundabout at County Roads 8 and 22.
- Endorsed a motion that supports the continued review of the Northern Shield Pipeliine, recognizing Sarnia-Lambton’s role as Eastern Canada’s energy hub and the potential benefits to energy security, economic development, and employment, subject to all applicable consultation, regulatory approvals, and environmental assessments.
- Endorsed a motion directing the County Planning Department to prepare a report on potential impacts of AI-related data centre development within Lambton County, including considerations relation to land use, zoning, electrical power supply and capacity, water consumption, environmental impacts, job creation, and municipal infrastructure rquirements, with the report to be presented to Council in early 2027.
- Instructed County staff to include in its 2027 budget an origin-destination study for heavy truck traffic travelling on County Road 21.
- Received a report regarding Municipal Elections: Nominations and Lambton County Council Status, indicating that County Council is considered to be “lame duck” and prohibited from carrying out certain actions. Those actions have been temporarily delegated to the Chief Administrative Officer until the end of term.
Council will next meet at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 7, 2026. The meeting will begin with a Closed Session, if necessary, followed immediately by the Open Session.
