County of Lambton launches naming contest for 471 Kathleen Avenue
Sarnia, ON – The County of Lambton is inviting residents to help name its newest affordable housing development at 471 Kathleen Avenue in Sarnia.
The submission form is available through the County of Lambton website. Paper copies will be made available at the front counter of the Lambton Shared Services Centre at 162 Lochiel Street, Suite 100 in Sarnia. All submissions will be accepted until noon on Friday, September 18.
Community members are encouraged to submit naming suggestions that reflect a direct connection to the area or have historical significance. Submissions must include a proposed name and a brief explanation of its relevance.
“We are excited to see the creativity of our residents and learn about the local connections and stories that inspire their suggestions”, said Melisa Johnson, Manager of Housing Services. “Every name tells a story”.
A committee will be formed internally to select the winning name. The selected name will be announced during the building’s official opening at a later date.
The three-storey building will provide 50 deeply affordable rent-geared-to-income (RGI) housing units. Fourteen of the units will be barrier-free and operated by March of Dimes Canada, offering accessible housing options for residents with disabilities.
Construction on the development began in mid-2025, and residents are expected to begin moving in during late fall.
The project supports the goals outlined in Lambton County’s 10-Year Housing and Homelessness Plan, which is guided by the vision that every resident has access to safe, suitable, and affordable housing.
