Four new exhibitions opening at the Judith & Norman Alix Art Gallery in fall 2026
Sarnia, ON – Four new exhibitions are opening this fall at the Judith & Norman Alix Art Gallery (JNAAG), bringing together contemporary works and pieces from the Gallery’s permanent collection that explore portraiture, still life, memory, movement, and materiality.
“These exhibitions offer visitors four very different ways to experience art, from intricate contemporary works and portraiture to new perspectives on pieces from our own permanent collection,” said Sonya Blazek, Curator/Supervisor, Judith & Norman Alix Art Gallery. “First Friday is a wonderful opportunity to experience the exhibitions, meet some of the artists and spend time discovering the ideas and stories behind the work.”
The public is invited to view the exhibitions starting at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, October 2 as part of First Friday:
Breathing Spaces: Colleen Schindler and Grahame Lynch explore stillness, movement, and fleeting emotions through complementary, process-driven practices.
Homme: Liana Russwurm’s portraits reinterpret the dramatic lighting and naturalism of Baroque masters like Caravaggio within contemporary portraiture.
Memento: Traces the evolution of still life through the gallery’s permanent collection.
11059 Cuts: Zhan Zhang creates fragile, dreamlike works that blend traditional Chinese paper cutting with contemporary and surrealist aesthetics to explore time and materiality.
A Members Reception will take place on First Friday, October 2 from 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m., with exhibiting artists in attendance. Those interested in becoming a JNAAG member can call the gallery at 519-336-8127 for more information.
The Judith & Norman Alix Art Gallery is open Wednesday to Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with extended hours on Thursday until 8:30 p.m. Learn more by visiting jnaag.ca.
