Internal Reviews and Appeals

If you disagree with a decision about your Ontario Works assistance, you have the right to request an internal review. If you disagree with the result of the internal review, you may appeal to the Social Benefits Tribunal. Learn about the process below.

Internal Review

Request a review of a decision made by the local Ontario Works office.

If you disagree with a decision related to your Ontario Works benefits, you can request an Internal Review within 30 days of the decision date. The review is completed by a member of the Ontario Works management team who was not involved in the original decision.

You will receive a written decision within 10 business days of your request. If you disagree with the outcome, you may be able to appeal to the Social Benefits Tribunal.

The Social Benefits Tribunal

Appeal the outcome of an Internal Review.

If you disagree with the results of an Internal Review, you may submit an appeal to the Social Benefits Tribunal within 30 days of the Internal Review decision.

The Social Benefits Tribunal can only hear appeals after an Internal Review has been completed. Decisions regarding eligibility for discretionary benefits cannot be appealed to the Tribunal.

Social Benefits Tribunal Appeal Forms are available at your local Ontario Works office or by contacting the Social Benefits Tribunal directly at:
